When you feel relaxed, your body feels great. Your heart rate slows down, and you feel at ease. Well, we have some strategies for you that will also feel ahhh-mazing! Write down why you feel so awesome in this particular moment. Savour it! Enjoy it! You can come back to this feeling and this time on days when you might be feeling a bit low.
You can also start a gratitude journal to help you feel all the good feelings at this moment. What does your happy place look like? Is it a bookshop in a small European town?
Is it a coffee shop in New York? What do you see, smell, and hear in this space? It can also be nice to sit with this feeling on your own. If you decide to mediate with it, it can be a really wonderful experience to feel that much love and pride within yourself. How are you feeling? Since that meeting, all of us have been able to refer back to them and know exactly what we need to be working on.
Say something kind about them as a person and the character traits or qualities they have. This shows that you know them and care about them. Confident people compliment people!
Plus, when we look for the good and call it out in others, the joy it brings them will naturally lift our own mood. You inspire me! Giving of your time or your talents are totally valid ways to make someone feel appreciated.
You could offer to babysit and give a busy mom a much-needed date night or a nap. You could sit down and listen to a friend who really, really needs to vent. For people who have a hard time accepting thanks and praise without feeling awkward, sometimes telling a third party can help lessen the pressure of knowing what to say back to you in the moment.
Give that person a shout-out in your next meeting or tell their boss they did an amazing job on a project. Tell your kids how much you admire your spouse for working so hard every day.
Sometimes, clearly stating your appreciation is even stronger than just saying thank you. And you never know the kind of lasting effect your words could leave on someone. You can be that person. You can be happy for their happiness and rejoice with them in their success.
Moments of success usually come after a period of prolonged effort, and you can make them feel good about themselves by recognizing how hard they have worked to get where they are now. And the fact that you are choosing to celebrate with them will let them know that their success matters to you a great deal. They open up to those that they trust and are close to. So by letting someone in, by showing them your authentic and vulnerable side, you communicate your trust and closeness to that person.
You are saying to them that you and they have a deep and valuable connection that goes beyond mere acquaintances. Share your feelings, your fears, your dreams, your memories, and even your secrets if you choose to. When you have these types of heartfelt conversations with people, it makes them feel worthy of your trust in them.
People like to feel useful. Ask them their opinions on something. Ask them to take on some responsibilities when you have too much on your plate. Quite often, when you ask someone to step up to the plate and be awesome, they will duly oblige. And both you and they will feel great when some good comes from your cooperation.
Whenever someone helps you in even the smallest way, be purposeful with your thanks. For bigger things, send them a card, buy them a gift, and be there to repay the favor when they need your help. And as much as it might be challenging for the other person, they will undoubtedly feel like an important part of your life if it is they you call upon when faced with genuine struggles.
In fact, if they want to be an important person in your life, they may actually resent you if you turn to someone else instead of them. They want to be the one to help. They want to be the one you trust most. They want that confirmation that the bond you have really is special. Choose those closest to you. So if you choose to be completely honest with someone and trust them with the truth even if that truth is an opinion , it shows that person that you value them enough and care about them enough to risk tension or conflict.
Because sometimes the truth is not all that pleasant to hear, especially from someone we care about. And whilst it may cause temporary ill-feeling, most people will likely feel a stronger bond with those they can be upfront with.
